Vancouver, B.C. – The Vancouver Giants will pick third overall in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft after the Prince Albert Raiders won today’s draft lottery which was held at the WHL Office in Calgary, Alberta.
This will mark the sixth time that the Giants have held a top five pick. Previously, Vancouver drafted Gilbert Brule at first overall in 2002, Daniel Bertram at second overall in 2002, Tyler Benson at first overall in 2013, Tyler Popowich at third overall in 2015 and Bowen Byram at third overall in 2016.
The 2017 WHL Bantam Draft will be held in Calgary on Thursday, May 4, 2017.
The order of the second round and all other rounds will be the inverse order of final 2016-17 WHL regular season standings.
Players eligible for the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft will be 2002-born players who reside in Alberta, B.C., Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Yukon, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
