We will be able to witness a replay of the Euro 2016’s most entertaining match.
In just under nine months Portugal and Hungary have been paired to play against each other again after their historic 3:3 draw at the Euro 2016 in France.
After securing the draw against Hungary, Portugal progressed through as the third placed team in the group and miraculously won the tournament in the end after they defeated the host nation of France with Eder’s goal in extra time.
Hungary bowed out from the tournament after they were defeated by Belgium in the later stages and received rave reviews both from home and abroad for their heroic performance.
Portugal enter this World Cup qualifier as favorites, having won the last three matches against Faroe Islands, Andora and Latvia. With a victory against Hungary, who are just below them on the table with two points less, the Portuguese will find themselves in a desirable position to progress to the World Cup without playing an extra playoff match.
Hungary didn’t have the best of starts to this campaign as they fell to a shocking 0:0 draw to Faroe Islands in September. An unfortunate loss to Switzerland at home worsened their chances for automatic qualification and best they can now hope for is third place if they cannot fight of a positive result tonight.
