The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Kamloops Blazers 3-2 on Saturday night at Prospera Place for game two of the WHL Playoffs round one.

Kelowna opened the scoring again tonight this time 2:53 into the first frame. Cal Foote picked the top corner with a wrist shot from the point for his first of the post season. Kamloops came out shooting registering 16 shots on goal in the first 20 minutes. Last night they had only 15 throughout the whole game. Despite the increase in offence the Rockets took a 1-0 lead into the break.

There was no score in the second period thanks to a massive highlight reel save by Michael Herringer. Both goalies had to be sharp as shots were 26-25 for Kamloops after 40 minutes. Rockets led 1-0.

The score exploded in the final frame. First Dillon Dube scored a shorthanded marker at 11:55. Then at 13:24 Dube added a power play marker and the Rockets held a 3-0 lead. Kamloops wouldn’t roll over though, as they got on the board for the first time in the series at 13:59 of the third. They scored again to bring the score within one at 16:30 on the power play and it was a 3-2 game. Kelowna managed to fend the Blazers off for the remainder and hold on for a 3-2 victory.

Michael Herringer was stellar making 33 saves on 35 shots, including numerous timely saves that helped give the Rockets some momentum. He earned the games first star.

Kelowna now has a 2-0 series lead over Kamloops.

The series shifts to Kamloops for games three and four. Game three goes on Tuesday and game four on Wednesday. Both of those are at 7:05pm.
