Royals Dropped In Game One


Everett, WA- The Victoria Royals were downed 4-2 by the Everett Silvertips in the first game of their Round 1 match-up and now trail the best-of-seven series 1-0.


The Silvertips’ Dominic Zwerger tallied two goals, which included the game winner. Kevin Davis opened the scoring, while Patrick Bajkov recorded the other goal for the home side.


Victoria’s Jack Walker got the visitors on the board with a wrister from the top of the face-off circle that beat Everett netminder Carter Hart on the glove side. Dante Hannoun scored the Royals’ remaining marker.


With two points (1g-1a) tonight, Walker tied the all-time franchise record for most playoff goals (13), assists (16), and points (29). All three records were set by alumnus Brandon Magee who took part in 27 post-season games from 2011-2015.


Royals’ goaltender Griffen Outhouse made 21 saves on the 25 shots directed his way. The Silvertips’ Hart meanwhile, stopped 30 of the 32 pucks he faced.


Victoria held a mark of 2/4=50.0% on the powerplay, while Everett went 2/5=40.0% with the man-advantage.


The Royals continue the 2017 WHL Playoffs tomorrow night against the Silvertips. Puck drop for Game 2 is set for 7:05 p.m. from the XFINITY Arena in Everett, WA.


Victoria will then travel back home for Game’s 3 and 4 on Tuesday, March 28th and Wednesday, March 29th.
