Victoria BC: The Eves of Destruction will officially kick-off their 11th season of roller derby in Victoria with a double header season opener at Archie Browning Arena on Saturday, April 1.

The first game will begin at 5:30pm and will see the Belles of the Brawl face off against up island rivals, the Brick House Betties. Following the retirement of some key skaters in 2016, the Belles of the Brawl have been working incredibly hard in the off season. This will be the first game for new draftee, Violet Criminal, who was picked up by the team in early March. Though nervous, she is excited and “looking forward to feeding off the energy of the fans!”

Belles of the Brawl captain, Hot Piece-A-Sass, says that the team has grown together as a cohesive unit since late 2016. About this game, she says “It will be a fun and intense challenge. No matter the outcome, it will be a pleasure to be a part of. We are stoked to get out there and kick some ass!”

Following the Belles of the Brawl game, the Margarita Villains take the track against the Heartless Heathers, from Rose City in Portland, Oregon. This is a new opponent for the Villains, and represents the same league that won the 2016 WFTDA world championships. Anticipating a challenging game, the Villains have been working on shutting down jammers with heavy defensive walls. Villains captain, Pfury S. Pfaff, thinks this will be a great game for both players and spectators: “A great way to start our season!”.

All 2017 events are family friendly (kids under 10 are free!), include a beer garden, halftime events, vendor village and TWO games full of hard hitting action!

The Eves of Destruction Roller Derby League was formed in 2006, has over 70 players, refs, and officials, and features five teams. Adult members play for The A-Team, The Belles of the Brawl, The Margarita Villains and The Hard Cores. The league also has a gender-inclusive junior team, The Rotten Apples, made up of players aged 10-18.

Doors open at 5 pm, seats are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Tickets can be purchased online, or at Logan’s Pub, Hive Hair and The Esquimalt Recreation Centre.

**BUY A SEASON PASS AND SAVE!** A Season Pass will save you 10% off the advance ticket price and, new in 2017, Season Pass holders will receive $5 off their first purchase of $20 or more at our merch table!
