Victoria forward signs an Amateur Tryout Agreement with the Gulls.


Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals are pleased to announce that Tyler Soy has joined the San Diego Gulls of the American Hockey League (AHL), who are the top affiliate of the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks, on an Amateur Tryout Agreement.


A native of Cloverdale, BC, Soy made his professional debut with the Gulls on Saturday night against the Ontario Reign. Soy was drafted by the Ducks in the seventh round, 205th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.


The 6-0, 171 lb forward took part in 44 regular season games this year and recorded 55 points (25g-30a). Earlier this season, Soy set the record for most career goals by a Royal with 115. He now trails former Chilliwack Bruin Ryan Howse for the all-time franchise record for career goals scored (140). Soy also played in six post-season contests this year where he earned four points (2g-2a).


During the 2015-16 season, Soy was recognized as the WHL’s Most Sportsmanlike Player, and was awarded the Brad Hornung Trophy. Soy finished last season second in team scoring with 85 points (46g-39a) and only 27 minutes in penalties. Soy led the team in goals with 46, and at the time broke the Royals’ record for most markers in a single season.


In 257 regular season WHL games, Soy has scored 235 points (115g-120a).
