Huskie Football Introduces 2017 Recruiting Class

University of Saskatchewan Huskie football head coach Scott Flory announced his first recruiting class Thursday at the 17th annual Dogs’ Breakfast.

 

Flory unveiled 14 of the new faces that will don the green and white beginning in 2017.

 

“We are really looking forward to the 2017 season and a new era of Huskie football,” said Flory, who was announced as head coach in March. “The Canada West is a tough conference and these new athletes will help us be successful. We look forward to seeing what they can do this weekend at spring camp.”

 

The new recruits and the rest of the Huskie football squad hits the field in spring camp tonight at 5 p.m. at Griffiths Stadium in PotashCorp Park. The annual green and white scrimmage is slated for 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Recruits Quick Facts…

 

The Huskies continue to add plenty of homegrown talent with 10 of their 13 recruits playing their high school football in Saskatchewan.

 

Two of the recruits played for the Saskatoon City 4A Champion Holy Cross Crusaders. In all five recruits played in the Saskatoon City 4A Championship Game, where Holy Cross defeated the Centennial Chargers 16-10.

 

The Huskies added 3 recruits from British Columbia and 1 from Manitoba in this year’s class.

 

Two of the recruits have kept it in the family – David Solie and Tom Whiting – join their brothers – Jacob Solie and Ben Whiting – on the Huskies’ roster.

 

Five of the recruits wore provincial colours at the 2016 Football Canada Cup in Winnipeg.

 

Two of the recruits donned Canadian colours for the U18 National Team (Bryce Liwiski) and U19 National Team (David Solie).
