The Portland Winterhawks have announced the signing of forward Mason Mannek.
Mannek, from Herriman, Utah, played last season for the Colorado Thunderbirds Midget AAA team, where he was the captain. A 2000-born forward, Mannek recorded 16 goals to go along with 27 assists for 43 points in 32 games last season, which placed him fourth in the nation in scoring in the prestigious Tier 1 Elite Hockey League. Mannek joins fellow Colorado Thunderbirds alumni Dominic Turgeon, Alex Overhardt and Jake Gricius as a Winterhawks player.
“I was impressed with Mason this year at training camp, and as our scouts followed him throughout the year they felt he could step in and make an impact,” said Portland Winterhawks Vice President, General Manager and Head Coach Mike Johnston. “We’re excited to have a person of his character and leadership added to the team.”
“It’s truly a dream come true to become part of a first class organization with Portland.” said Mannek. “After my first year of training camp it became a goal of mine to be a part of this organization, and I am very excited to become a Winterhawk!”
