Kamloops, BC – It’s that time of the year again! After a long season in which they finished 11-17 (4th place in the league), it’s time for playoffs for the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Baseball team. They head to Kelowna today and the tournament starts on Wednesday. The ‘Pack haven’t won the championship since 2011 and haven’t been in the finals since 2014.
The ‘Pack’s round robin schedule for the weekend looks like this:
Wednesday, May 10th – 1pm vs #3 University of Fraser Valley Cascades
Thursday, May 11th – 12:30pm vs #1 Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs
Friday, May 12th – 12:30pm vs #6 University of Calgary Dinos
Saturday, May 13th – 10am vs #5 Vancouver Island Baseball Institute Mariners
The rest of the schedule is to be announced depending on how they do in round robin play.
“The good thing about this league is that everyone makes the playoffs, and it’s just one week that you need to get hot for,” says fourth year infielder Josh Hillis, “So we’re coming in very positive, we’re going to forget about the season we had, start fresh and play the way we know we can, and hopefully we have success.”
“You have to ask yourself. Are you the same animal but a different beast?” says outfielder Ethan Mohan, “Playoffs is its own season. 5-6 games, 9 innings each day. You have to live and die in each inning knowing you can have no doubt on the field. It’s intense, and only the focused and hungry survive. We arrive as a unit and hungry pack and we’ll be coming home with some hardware.”
“We just have to go back to doing the little things right,” rookie Vance Fode states, “When we were on our win streak that’s what we were doing, taking care of the things we had control over. We have to flush what happened during the regular season cause everyone starts at the same place this week. Come out ready to go and we will accomplish what we want to do.”
The ‘Pack will head to Kelowna today for the CCBC Awards Banquet where they’re sure to have a few winners. And then the tournament starts on Wednesday. The WolfPack are hungry. They weren’t happy with their regular season and they’re looking to take it out on their opponents during playoffs and bring home their first championship in six years.
