It was a big weekend for the Nanaimo Intermediate A Timbermen lacrosse team.
On Saturday the Timbermen played the Burnaby Lakers at the Frank Crane Arena, and on Sunday travelled to Coquitlam to play the Adanacs. Saturday’s game against the Lakers ended in a 12-8 victory for the Timbermen – a team that Nanaimo has been competitive with for the past couple of years, but the really big win was a 19-11 decision over the Adanacs. Coquitlam has a very strong club for many seasons.
In Coquitlam, the Adanacs came out strong and finished the first period up 8-3. Nanaimo regrouped and came back to tie the game 9-9 by the end of the second, and allowed only 3 goals in the final two periods. Nanaimo was without strong rookie goalie Colin Jeffrey, and brought in midget goalie Justin Geddies from the Peninsula Minor Lacrosse Association. Geddies made several big stops and was a big part of the win.
The Timbermen now sit atop the standings with 5 wins and only 1 overtime loss.
Nanaimo plays the Okanagan Wild this Saturday at 1:00 at the Frank Crane Arena.
