After many months of recruitment and coming off of a successful Spring Camp, the Westshore Rebels are excited to announce the signing of returning players, talented veteran recruits, and new rookies on June 1st the CJFL official signing day.
Westshore Rebels play in the BC Football Conference (BCFC) of the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL), and took home the 2016 Cullen Cup. The Rebels are thrilled to have returning champions such as: 2016 CJFL All Canadian Offensive Lineman Christian Krause, Jeremie Druin Defensive Lineman and Kent Hicks Defensive Lineman, Tight End and Punter returning to the team this season. Both Hicks and Druin were invited and attended the 2017 CFL Combine. As well, Trey Campbell who was one of the top Running Backs for the Westshore Rebels last season is returning to the Rebels instead of playing for Saint Mary’s University.
“As with any junior football team your goal is to coach up players so they can move up in their football career. We were successful last year and have some big shoes to fill and I am confident we have done that. I am also extremely happy with our defensive line as we have many talented returning players this season,” said Coach Cardilicchia.
Coach Cardilicchia traveled as far as Nova Scotia to Alberta to find the talent he was looking for and it has paid off. With veteran players such as: Quarterback Scott Borden who played part of the season last year with the Rebels, Raisuan Provo Running Back from University of Carlton, and Receiver from the Toronto Grizzlies Desron Kier the team is going to be well-rounded.
In addition, we have commitments from all-star high school Rookies such as: local talent Tyrese Hogue Offensive Tackle from the Mount Doug Rams, Anthony Bodger Running Back (track and field all-star sprinter) from Abbotsford, and Asad Sheriff Receiver from Winnipeg.
“We are going to have an explosive team this year with the talent coming in from our new recruits and the strength and experience of our returning players. We don’t plan on giving up the Cullen Cup and are going for back to back winning seasons,” said Coach Cardilicchia.
