Jim Cain has been included in the 2017 Canadian Lacrosse Association induction class. Jim “downtown” Cain joined the Shamrocks in 1979 and has won so many Mann Cups, he can’t fit all of his rings on one hand. The six championships that Cain has been a part of are more than any other individual has won with the Shamrocks. He has also participated in thirteen national championship final series with Victoria.

Prior to working with the Shamrocks, Cain worked for fifteen years as a hockey trainer. After retiring from that he came on to work with the Shamrocks with head trainer Denny Morris, three seasons later in 1982 Morris retired and Cain took over as Victoria Shamrocks’ head trainer. Through all the years Cain has remained humble as shown by this clip from an interview with Shamrocks General Manager Chris Welch.

“I’ve been so fortunate over the years to have been associated with so many great athletes, coaches, trainers, and managers, and to have been a part of winning so many championships with different teams in Victoria. I’d like to think in a small way that I have contributed and mentored and guided so many young players to be the best that they can be at all times, including their personal lives.”

If you looked up multi-tasker in the dictionary, the definition would just be a picture of Jim. After thirty-eight seasons with the team he still shows up to every practice, making sure that the dressing room is clean for the players, players are healthy, and working them back to playing shape when injured. He makes sure the uniforms are clean, and the players are happy.

Jim is the prime example of what bleeding green and being a Victoria Shamrock is all about. Congratulations Jim
