Upsets was the word of the day at the Panorama International Junior ITF Tennis Championships.
In Boys singles, five seeds were upset in Round of 16.
Joshua Lapadat, Jonah Wilson and Eddie Wu all scored straight sets victoriaes over their seeded opponents on Wednesday. Lapadat defeated second seed Milledge Cossu of USa 6-3,6-3, while Eddie Wu defeated number 3 seed Nicolas Kiefer 6-3, 7-5. RJ Fresen of New Jersey defeated Number one Aaron Diemer in three sets by a score of 4-6,6-4, 6-2. Seeds Theo McDonald, Raul Dobai and Stefan Leustian all won in two sets over their unseeded opponents.
In girls singles action, 6 of the top seeds are still alive in the chase for the title including Jessie Gong of Vancouver who was last October Victoria international Champion.
Elizabeth Stevens scored a three set victory over number seven seed Yasmin Mansouri of Vancouver. Not all the seeds had a easy time of it as Ashleigh Jacobs of Alberta and Renata Gabuzyan were both taken to three sets, but both prevailed in the end. Madison Kim of the USA and Risa Fukutoku of Japan have been going quietly about their business and have both secured quarterfinal berths.
Thursday will quarterfinal singles actions for both boys and girls at Panorama Tennis Centre. Boys singles action starts at 9 am followed by girls singles action. Later in the day will boys and girls doubles semifinal action.
There will be on court spectator bleacher seating starting tomorrow Thursday and the singles finals will be Saturday.
