LANGLEY, British Columbia – Soon-to-be Spartans sprinter Ben Tjernagel (New Westminster, B.C.) put on quite a show at the 2017 B.C. High School Track and Field Championships, capturing gold in the 200m and silver in the 100m to lead this year’s TWU recruitment class at the provincial meet at Langley’s McLeod Athletic Park.

Tjernagel, who attends New Westminster Secondary, took home the top prize in the 200m with a personal best time of 21.86, bettering defending champion Quinn Litherland by nearly a tenth of a second (21.95).

The day before, Tjernagel earned a silver medal in the 100m with a time of 10.82, which also marked a personal record. Tjernagel missed out on the gold medal by one one-hundredth of a second.

The weekend prior, fellow Spartans commit Dominic Luccock (Delta, B.C.) also found his way onto the provincial podium, winning bronze in the decathlon with a personal record 5,324 points. He followed that up with a bronze medal in pole vault at this past weekend’s BC championships, clearing 3.60m.

All told, TWU’s announced recruits finished amongst the top 10 in 10 different events at this year’s provincial meet.
