Victoria, British Columbia (VIGolf.ca) – As the Uplands Golf Club in Victoria hosts this week’s Bayview Place Cardtronics Open; an official Mackenzie Tour event, six locals from Victoria will be teeing it up in the hopes of winning in front of their hometown fans. The six players are: Ben Griffin, Brain Slugget, Steve Lecuyer, Isaac Weintraub, Keaton Gudz, Nolan Thoroughgood.
Among the six players, Griffin, Weintraub, and Lecuyer are professionals, while Thoroughgood, Gudz, and Slugget are amateurs.
Ben Griffin, a pro at the Uplands Golf Club received a sponsors exemption into the event by the way of Bayview Place Owner Ken Mariash. As for Thoroughgood, and Gudz, the two were the top amateurs on the Vikes Performance Tour heading into this week.
Uplands Golf Club Champion Brain Slugget will also be competing in the event again, and it will be his second time after first qualfying in 2015.
Isaac Weintraub, an assistant at the Gorge Vale Golf Club, earned his spot by the way of leading the Vikes Performance Tour Order of Merit.
“I’m really excited. I haven’t played a Canadian tour event, which is now called PGA Tour Canada, since 2009 when I was on that tour. I was on the tour for five years”, said Weintraub who is originally from Santa Cruz, California.
Bear Mountain team member and former Mackenzie Tour player Steven Lecuyer received another sponsors exemption by the way of a six-man playoff which included Eric Wang, Darren Day Jr., Two-time World Long Drive Champion Jamie Sadlowski, Victoria Vikes standout Lawren Rowe, and Rob Greenwell.
