It was a mixed bag for the Intermediate and Junior ‘A’ Shamrocks Saturday as the Intermediates defeated the visiting Delta Islanders 12-9 and the Jr. Shamrocks dropped a 17-16 decision to the Langley Thunder also at the Q Centre.
In the afternoon contest the Intermediates held period leads of 4-2 and 8-6 on their way to the win, however, fell behind 9-8 in the final period before scoring the final 4 goals of the game to get the win.Brody Black led Victoria’s attack unofficially with 5 goals and 4 assists.
Thomas Vaesen chipped in 3 goals and 1 helper and Jackson Boyd added a goal and 5 assists. Caleb Kueber added a goal and 3 assists with Josh Pickford and Liam Phillips adding singles. A.J. Jensen went the distance in goal to pick up the win. The Intermediates are on the road Sunday taking on the Port Coquitlam Saints and return to the Q Centre next Saturday, July 1 when they will host the Coquitlam Adanacs in a 1:30 pm start.
The Junior Shamrocks led 5-4 after the first period but Langley managed to finish the middle frame with a 10-10 tie. The teams then combined for 13 goals in the final 20 minutes including 4 Langley shorthanded goals as they held on for the 1-goal victory. The result leaves the Shamrocks tied with the Port Coquitlam Saints in fourth place, two points behind the Thunder. It also gives Langley the edge in head-to-head competition should it be required for a tie-break.
Cole Pickup led the Shamrocks offense with 4 goals and 6 assists. Brad McCulley and Nick Preston had hat tricks with Braylon Lumb and Skyler Wilson each scoring twice. Marshal King had 6 assists.Spence Erwin took the loss in goal with Will Kinnaird in relief late in the game. The Jr. Shamrocks travel to Burnaby Sunday before returning to the Q Centre Tuesday for an all-island match-up against the Nanaimo Timbermen at 8:00 pm.
