Hard Canada Day For Victoria Highlanders FC

54

Victoria Highlanders FC (3W-0D-6L) dropped a 7-1 decision to Lane United FC (3W-4D-6L), July 1 in their first of back-to-back weekend matches south of the border.

Isma Fernandez led the way for the home side with a hat-trick, while Francesco Bartolillo registered the lone goal for the Highlanders.

Lane capitalized on an early penalty kick in the 12th minute and didn’t look back, cruising to a 5-1 lead at the half. Everything the home side touched seemed to turn to gold, with a number of perfectly placed shots that left Highlanders goalkeeper Simon Norgrove with no chance.

Bartolillo’s goal came late in the first half to negate Lane’s clean sheet bid. It was the midfielder’s second goal of the season for Victoria.

The Highlanders will have little time to dwell on the match, with their third match in four days taking place Sunday afternoon in Salem, Oregon versus Portland Timbers U-23. Kick-off in the match is set for 12:30 p.m.
