The Intermediate Shamrocks entertained the Port Coquitlam Saints Saturday at the Q Centre coming away with a resounding 17-6 victory against the visitors. The game was tight through the first period, tied 2-2 but the Rocks broke it open in the final 40 minutes, outscoring PoCo 7-2 in the second and 8-2 in the third. It was a scrappy affair at times. Leading the Rocks’ offense unofficially were Brayden Brown with 5 goals and 4 assists, Caleb Kueber with 4 goals and 3 assists and Jackson Boyd with 7 helpers.
Brody Black added 2 goals and 3 assists with Thomas Vaesen contributing a hat trick. A.J. Jensen was solid in goal to pick up the win, as he and the miserly Victoria defense limited the Saints to just 2 goals per period. The Shamrocks finish the regular season with a pair of road games. They travel to Burnaby Sunday to face the Lakers and take on the league-leading Maple Ridge Burrards next Sunday, July 16 before going into playoffs prior to Provincials. Dates and match-ups will be unknown until the season ends.
Meanwhile, the Jr. Shamrocks finished their regular season with a win without having to step on the floor, the Delta Islanders forfeiting the game as being unable to put a team on the floor for what would have been the final regular season game for both teams. The Jr. Rocks will face the Langley Thunder in a 1-game wild card game Sunday on the mainland with the winner getting the opportunity to go against the league-leading Coquitlam Adanacs in a best-of-five semi final. The other semi-final will feature the New Westminster Salmonbellies and Port Coquitlam Saints.
