VICTORIA, BC – The 2017 Premier Development League (PDL) season will wrap up this weekend for Highlanders FC (4W-0D-8L), with two more matches scheduled against Seattle Sounders U-23 (6W-1D-6L, 7:00 pm), July 14 at Centennial Stadium and at Calgary Foothills U-23 (8W-3D-2L, 1:00 pm) on July 16 in Calgary.
The Highlanders Home Season Finale will take place Friday against the Sounders, who handed Victoria a costly loss on July 7 at Sunset Stadium. That defeat should add some fuel to the match for both sides, who will be looking to wrap up the final stages of their season on a high note. Sounders U-23 are coming off a Wednesday night match where they were dealt a heartbreaking 3-2 decision against expansion side TSS FC Rovers at Swangard Stadium to.
Victoria is coming off the highlight match of their season against the Rovers last Sunday, where the team retained the coveted Juan de Fuca Plate—awarded to the top PDL side in British Columbia. Paddy Nelson and Stuart Heath recorded goals in a 2-0 clean sheet victory which featured Ty Venhola between the woodwork for the first time this year.
Following their Friday night tilt, the Highlanders will make one last road trip to Calgary, Alta., where they will face division-leading Calgary Foothills U-23 for their 2017 Season Finale. Victoria will have an opportunity to play spoiler against Foothills, who are fending off Timbers U-23 for the 2017 Northwest Division title, and currently hold a two-point cushion on their southern counterparts.
“The group is committed to finishing the season on a high note,” Highlanders head coach Dave Dew said. “Hopefully we can exact a little bit of revenge on Friday night and cause Calgary some problems on Sunday afternoon.”
Highlanders kick-off their final two matches of the PDL season, 7:00 p.m. PST on July 14 against Seattle Sounders U-23. Tickets to the match are available by clicking HERE.
