2017 Futsal Canadian Championship winners Montreal Sporting Outlaws FC from Quebec have been drawn into Group B alongside club sides from Costa Rica, Cuba, and Mexico at the 2017 CONCACAF Futsal Club Championship.
“This Championship presents an opportunity for our 2017 Futsal Canadian Championship winners to play the top futsal clubs in our region and continue to build the appetite for the game in Canada,” said Canada Soccer President Steve Reed. “Futsal is growing in Canada, with our national competition having expanded and our national team having come so close to qualifying for the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup.”
The competition will run from August 21-26 at the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional Francisco Morazán in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
The Sporting Outlaws secured the 2017 Futsal Canadian Championship, hosted at Queens University in Kingston, ON. With round-robin wins over Ontario and Saskatchewan entrants, Sporting Outlaws eventually hoisted the trophy with a 7:3 victory over Saskataoon-based Olimipa SK FC.
The 2017 CONCACAF Futsal Club Championship will be the second edition of the competition with the inaugural event held in Guatemala in 2014. 2015 Futsal Canadian Champions Futsal Club Toronto were the Canadian entrants into that tournament falling 5:6, 4:6 to sides from Mexico and Costa Rica in the group stage, respectively.
