The Intermediate Shamrocks opened their best-of-3 semi final series at the Q Centre Saturday with a 12-10 victory over the Delta Islanders. The Rocks led 5-2 after the first, saw the visitors tie the score 8-8 after 2 and pulled ahead with some power play goals to pull out the win. Leading the way offensively and unofficially was Caleb Kueber with 3 goals and 3 assists. Jackson Boyd added 2 goals and 5 helpers while Thomas Vaesen and Josh Pickford each scored twice. Singles came from Luke Burton-Krahn, Brody Black, and Brayden Brown. Ryan Atkinson went the distance in goal and chipped in two assists. Game 2 in the series is at the Ladner Leisure Centre Sunday and, should a third game be required, it will take place next Saturday, July 29 at 1:30 pm at the Q Centre. The winner of this series, with the other 3 series winners, will advance to the Provincials in Langley on the August long weekend.
In the BC Junior A Lacrosse League, meanwhile, the Jr. Shamrocks saw their season come to an end as they dropped a 15-11 decision to the Coquitlam Adanacs. The Shamrocks were actually up 9-6 after 40 minutes but Coquitlam scored 8 straight goals to start the third before Victoria answered. The Adanacs sweep the series and move on to face the New Westminster Salmonbellies in the league final with the winner advancing to the Minto Cup in Branpton. Marshal King, Daniel Smith and Cameron Garlin each had a pair of goals for the Shamrocks. Other goals came from Brad McCulley, Jake Campbell, Braylon Lumb, Nick Preston and Brian Robb.
