BC Hockey announced the 26 players shortlisted for potential participation on Team BC at the 2017 National Women’s U18 Championship, held November 1 – 5, 2017 in Quebec City, Quebec.
The players will be evaluated by BC Hockey evaluators and the Team BC coaching staff during the Team BC September Camp, September 28 – October 1, 2017 in Vancouver, BC. The final roster will be announced once the September Camp concludes.
“This year we saw an incredible group of talented, strong players from around BC and the Yukon, making it a tough decision to narrow the field to 26 players,” said BC Hockey Female Program of Excellence (POE) Coordinator, Whitney Juszkiewicz. “We congratulate all the players that have moved forward in the Team BC selection process and look forward to working with them as we prepare to compete in Quebec City,”
The National Women’s U18 Championship features eight (8) regional teams: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario Red, Ontario Blue, Quebec, and Atlantic. The tournament features the best Midget-aged players in the country, and claims alumni such as Marie-Philip Poulin, Natalie Spooner, and Meghan Agosta.
BC Hockey’s POE was established to identify and train athletes and team personnel for possible participation at provincial, national and international events. BC Hockey’s Female U18 level is the third and final stage of the POE. It is an opportunity for the top players in the province to train and compete at an elite level and is meant to introduce players to the beginning of the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence.
