The Eves of Destruction’s The A-Team shone a bright light on Victoria’s roller derby talent, after two wins and two of their players being named MVPs at Derby Night in Canada held in New Westminster over the weekend.

After falling to Seattle’s Rat City Rain of Terror in their first game 199-100, the A-Team won their next two bouts — 166-136 over Vancouver’s Terminal City Roller Girls B-Side and 170-153 over Everett, Washington’s Jet City Aviators.

Two A-Team skaters were given MVP nods over the weekend. The Frenzie was given the award after the game against Rat City for her incredible blocking and hard hits. The A-Team’s Choka was named MVP after the last bout versus Jet City. Choka, who is known for her speed and agility as a jammer — enabling her to collect a lot of points for her team as she skates around the track — calls it an honour to be recognized in this way.

“I was blown away to be named MVP. I’ve never gotten MVP in an A-Team game before. It was an amazing finish to a great weekend with my league mates”

A-Team Coach Pfury S. Pfaff says the team’s focus on physical fitness as of late was a factor in their success over the weekend:

“We have been working on our endurance and this was definitely a testament to that as we played short and our players were able to fill the gaps and still come out on top”

Following this weekend, the A-Team will have a short rest before they welcome Jet City’s Camaro Harem to Victoria for the August 12th bout at Archie Browning Arena.

The August 12th bout is an exhibition double -header — with the Eves developmental team, The Hard Cores, facing Duncan’s Brass Knuckle Derby Dames as the opening act. Admission is by donation.

Doors open at 5 pm and, as always, the bout will include a 50/50 raffle, cold beer & cider, and delicious local Empire Donuts.
