Mariners Outright C Tuffy Gosewisch to AAA Tacoma

SEATTLE, Wash. – Seattle Mariners announced that the club has outrighted catcher Tuffy Gosewisch to AAA Tacoma.


The Mariners Major League, 40-man roster is currently at 39 players.


Gosewisch, 33, has spent the majority of the season with AAA, but also appeared in 11 games with Seattle (May 5-21) this season. In 65 games with the Rainiers, he hit .219 (47×215) with 22 runs scored, 18 doubles, 4 home runs, 28 RBI and 26 walks. He threw out 17-of-51 baserunners (33.3%), which is the 3rd-highest caught stealing percentage in the Pacific Coast League this season among qualifying catchers. Gosewisch hit .071 (2×28) with 1 run in 11 games with Seattle after he was recalled on May 5.


Gosewisch was claimed off waivers by the Mariners from the Atlanta Braves on January 26, 2017. Prior to that he was claimed by the Braves from the Arizona Diamondbacks on November 18, 2016.  In parts of 4 seasons with Arizona (2013-16) and Seattle (2017), he has hit .190 (80×420) with 25 runs scored, 17 doubles, 1 triple, 5 home runs, 30 RBI and 18 walks in 137 games. In 11 minor league seasons with Philadelphia (2005-2012), Toronto (2012), Arizona (2013-2016) and Seattle (2017), he hit .244 (711×2912) with 349 runs scored, 191 doubles, 7 triples, 65 home runs and 357 RBI in 865 career games.
