Kamloops, BC—After going unbeaten in their first four exhibition matches, the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s soccer team are planning to experience a tough test. The WolfPack leave Wednesday (Aug 15) for Oregon and their final three preseason matches.
The Pack will open up the three game set on Thursday (Aug 17) afternoon in Portland as they face the Evergreen State College GeoDucks (NAIA).
“We are really looking forward to this trip, “says WolfPack head coach John Antulov. “ We will have five players who will be joining us who were not in Calgary, so looking to work them into the program.”
The WolfPack had a win and three ties in their first four matches at a tournament hosted by Mount Royal. Reflecting upon those matches, Antulov stated: “I liked that we seemed to gel fairly quickly and the group of guys seemed to get along. That was the biggest thing I noticed.”
The first four matches saw a number of new players stand out including two players who were ‘redshirts’ last season: Emmanuel Aniogbe (Port Coquitlam, BC) and Zahk Barone (Kamloops, BC). “They played well but it’s a long way to go really. There are battles all over the park. Having said that, I like the way our younger players are progressing: it has been all of them. It has really been beneficial for them to see and work with the quality of players that we have brought in and what it will take for them to dress or get playing time-but they are progressing.”
The WolfPack’s other exhibition matches will be Sunday August 20th against the Portland Timbers residency program U-18 squad and Tuesday, August 22nd versus Concordia University Cavaliers (NCAA Div II).
Thompson Rivers opens its 2017-18 Canada West season August 25-26th in Prince George against the University of Northern British Columbia Thunderbirds. Their home opener is Saturday, September 2nd against the University of Victoria Vikes. It’s a 1 pm kick off at Hillside Stadium.
