Craig Beaucamp
UVic Vikes head coach Craig Beaucamp will once again get the opportunity to represent Canada at the highest level possible as the Senior Men’s National Team continues their quest for a spot in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Beaucamp will take on the responsibilities of assistant coach as the team goes through a training camp from August 19-24 in Toronto, before travelling to Argentina to do battle with the top 12 teams in the Americas in the FIBA AmeriCup 2017.

“I’m very excited and thankful for the opportunity to represent Canada on the world stage, anytime you get these opportunities it’s both an honour and a privilege,” said Beaucamp. “We are looking forward to beginning the journey to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019.”

Beaucamp and his team begin the tournament in Bahía Blanca, Argentina where they will play the United States Virgin Islands, Argentina and Venezuela in Group B of the competition.

If Canada finishes top of their group they move on to the Final Four in the tournament that runs from August 25 to September 3.

This is far from Beaucamp’s first opportunity to be at the helm of a national team, as he led the U-16 Men’s National Team to a second place finish in the FIBA U16 Championships of the Americas that took place earlier this year, June 14-18, in Argentina.

Beaucamp, now entering his 15th year as Vikes head coach, has also previously served as a guest coach with the Senior Men’s National Team and as an assistant coach with the U-18 Men’s National Team.
