The Prince George Spruce Kings announced the acquisition of 20 year old defenseman Chays Ruddy from the Notre Dame Hounds of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) in exchange for the Canadian Junior A rights to forward Hunter Luhmann and future considerations.

The 6’2” 205 pound Ruddy is from Cobourg Ontario and had recently been acquired by the Notre Dame Hounds from the Trenton Golden Hawks of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL). Ruddy spent the last two seasons patrolling the blue line in Trenton which included a trip this past spring to the RBC Cup National Junior A Championship. Last season in 45 games played Ruddy tallied 1 goal and 13 assists for 14 points plus 99 penalty minutes for the Golden Hawks.

“Chays is a veteran player with great character. He was a big part of a very good team in Trenton last season that earned its way to the National Championship. He will be leaned on heavily here to provide leadership on and off the ice and will be a big piece of our team this season.” said Spruce Kings General Manager Mike Hawes.

Chays will be joining his new teammates in the next few days as players begin arriving in town in preparation for the start of the team’s training camp on Thursday August 24th.
