The 29th edition of the International University Sports Federation’s Summer Universiade is currently on-going in Taipei City, TPE, with events taking place from August 19-30.

The University of Victoria is well represented at the international games, with seven athletes competing in the disciplines of swimming, diving and athletics.

In the pool, 2015 Pan Am Games bronze medallist Jeremy Bagshaw got the University of Victoria contingent off to a strong start with a sixth-place finish in the 400-metre freestyle final. Bagshaw will be back in the water on Wednesday 23 to take part in the 100-metre freestyle heats.

Fresh off claiming the title of national champion in the 1500-metre freestyle event at the Canadian Trials, Eric Hedlin will look to add to his already impressive 2017 season when he competes in the marathon distance on Sunday 27.

Danielle Hanus has a busy FISU schedule ahead of her; the three-time Canada West silver medallist is entered into the 100-metre backstroke, 50-metre backstroke as well as the 4×100-metre medley relay. Hanus is in the pool on Tuesday 22, Thursday 24 and Saturday 26.
