Borussia Dortmund have signed Jeremy Toljan, 2017 European under-21 champion and 2016 Olympic silver-medalist with the German national team. The full-back, who turned 23 at the start of the month, has put pen to paper on a contract running until 30 June 2022.
“Jeremy can play on the right and the left of defence,“ said sporting director Michael Zorc. “He played a key role in Germany’s title-winning Under-21 side at the European Championships this summer.” Toljan completed every match at the tournament and created three goals, including the winner in the 1-0 victory over Spain in the final.
Since making his Bundesliga debut on 5 October 2013, the Stuttgart-native has scored two goals in 56 league appearances for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and played in six DFB Cup matches. He has represented Germany on 38 occasions from the Under-17s through to the Olympic team that won silver at the 2016 Games in Rio. “He is a player with huge potential to develop,” said Zorc.
