Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals are proud to announce that the club has signed 19-year-old forward Jared Legien to a Western Hockey League (WHL) Standard Player Agreement.

Legien was listed to the Royals’ 50-man protected player list earlier this year. Each WHL team is allowed to protect 50 players which includes individuals who have either been signed, drafted or listed by their respective club.

The native of Pilot Butte, SK spent the 2015-16 season with the Yorkton Terriers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL). In 51 regular season games with the Terriers, Legien recorded 56 points (30g-26a) along with 60 minutes in penalties. Legien also took part in five post-season contests for the Terriers where he recorded three goals and two penalty minutes.

The 6-1, 206 lb forward was originally drafted by the Kootenay ICE in Round 1, ninth overall, at the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft. Legien played in 84 games for the ICE between 2014 and 2017 where he scored nine points (4g-5a) to go with 41 penalty minutes.
