Just like last year the 2017 BC Horseshoe Pitching Championships that were held in Cloverdale during the labour day weekend Sept 2 &3 were dominated by players from Vancouver Island.

All top classes were won by Islanders along with many other classes taken were from the island too.  Lindsay Hodgins from Victoria captured her 3 straight Ladies A championship. She had a record of 7 wins and one loss against two very tough opponents in Vivian Fendle of Penticton, and Juania Laye of Summerland.  Hodgins averaged 74% ringers as she has been ranked  3rd top female  player in the world.

The men’s top class went to Tom Moffat of Victoria in a very close group of the top pitchers in BC. Moffat finished with a 6-3 record to edge out Kevin Cuthbert also of Victoria.  Going into the last game of the group if Moffat had lost would have created a 3-way tie for first.  But Tom had other ideas and had a top game of 54% ringers to secure the win. This was Moffat’s 6  BC title. Tony Rondow came 3rd from Victoria

Bob McCauley out of Victoria captured his first Elder Men’s championship by beating out the likes of Jerry Melissa 5 time BC elder champ and Rick Britz the Elders Island champ.  Britz finished second. Also competing in this very good group were Vic Valle  of Prince George who came 3rd . McCauley has only been playing horseshoes for 3 yrs and has improved rapidly to become the top Elder player in the province.

Only 2 boys entered the tournament this year with Anthony Rondow capturing the Pee Wee boys title and Dalton Moffat the Jr boys title.  Rondow recorded 27% ringers and Moffat 31% for the tournament.
