Liam Kinshella has been appointed captain of the Victoria Cougars.
“I’m very happy with this decision,” Cougars head coach Suneil Karod said. “Liam has been in our program for a number of years and he understands what it means to be a Cougar.”
Kinshella becomes the 17th captain in team history, following in the footsteps of Mark Van Helvoirt, Brody Coulter, and Jake Stolz.
“He has a tough job ahead of him. But I know he’s up to the challenge and will excel in the role.”
The 20-year-old native of Victoria, B.C. was an alternate captain last year and is the type of person younger players can look up to.
“Liam gets that it’s not just about the way you conduct yourself on the ice or in the locker room, it’s also about how you conduct yourself in public and around other people,” Karod said.
For Kinshella, not only is he excited but he is honoured as well.
“It’s an honour to be chosen as captain, especially for a program that has been so successful,” Kinshella said. “After being on the Cougars for the past four years, I’m looking forward to spending my last season helping lead this team to success.”
Victoria opens the 2017-18 season at home tomorrow night against the Comox Valley Glacier Kings.
