VICTORIA COUGARS GET READY FOR THREE-GAME HOME STAND

35

The Victoria Cougars will begin a three-game home stand this Thursday as they take on the Peninsula Panthers to kick off Week 2 of the VIJHL schedule.

Game time at the Archie Browning Sports Centre, located at 1151 Esquimalt Road, is 7:00 p.m.

The three-game home stand will also include playing the Kerry Park Islanders on Sunday and the Westshore Wolves the following Thursday.

It was a perfect start to the season this past weekend for Victoria as it swept a home-and-home series with the Comox Valley Glacier Kings.

.

On Thursday, the Cougars won 5-0 before eking out a 4-3 road win 48 hours later.

2000-born Darwin Lakoduk led the way offensively with three goals and two assists.  Getting the start in both games was goaltender Patrick Ostermann who surrendered only three goals on 62 shots last week.

The youthful Panthers looked good in a 2-1 win over the Saanich Braves in their season opener last Friday.  But giving up nine goals less than 24 hours later in a 9-3 loss to Kerry Park explains their record.

Peninsula is led by 2001-born Riley Braun and a pair of exciting 2000-born players in Josh Lingard and Tanner Wort.

Having won only nine games last season, it would be no surprise to see the Panthers double that total.

Peninsula is in the midst of a seven-game road trip.  With major renovations well underway to Arena B at the Panorama Recreation Centre, the Panthers home opener will come October 6 against Westshore.

Elsewhere in the VIJHL on Thursday, the Campbell River Storm travels to Nanaimo to take on the Buccaneers at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
