The Margarita Villains’ impenetrable walls and powerful jammers were too much for their opponents to contend with, leading to their 199 – 77 win over the Belles of the Brawl in the Calamity Cup championship Saturday night (September 16th) at Archie Browning Arena in Esquimalt.

This is the second year in a row the Villains have been declared league champions. Villains Co-captain Tina F. Lawless says her team played with a lot of tenacity:

“I am so thrilled that we have once again won the Clam, because we have all been working so hard this season. The best thing about the season finale is that we get to play a challenging game and still have an absolute blast with our league mates”

It was the first game for the Belles of the Brawl’s newest draft picks, Ruby Roughouser and Dark Knight, who transferred from Okanagan Roller Derby and Montreal Roller Derby respectively. Ruby Roughouser says it felt great to play on her new team for the first time:

“They have always prided themselves on playing with integrity and positivity and we kept true to that through some hard blows in the game. I am happy to have found a spot in the Eves surrounded by so many wonderful humans!”

MVPs for the game were Courtney Shove (Belles of the Brawl) and Frank’s Red Hot (Margarita Villains). Prior to the battle for the Calamity Cup, the Eves’ junior team The Rotten Apples fell to their up-island rivals, the Candy Crushers 239 – 143. Femme Fatality, who was playing in her last game with the Apples says she is proud of the progression of her team this season:

“Our team is made up of a lot of rookies and I am super proud of them all for their advancement as individuals and a team. I saw a lot of growth from everyone especially with taking on leadership roles”

MVPs for the junior game were TerminateHer for the Apples and Ginger Snap for the Candy Crushers.

This was the last home game of the Eves 2017 season. League President The Wife of Wrath says credit for the success of the season needs to be given to those who support roller derby in Victoria:

“Last night capped off another amazing season of Eves of Destruction roller derby. Thank you so much to all of our sponsors, fans and volunteers — we couldn’t do it without you! I’m looking forward to sharing more great roller derby with Victoria next year”
