LANGLEY, BC - SEPTEMBER 23: Ryan Kubic #20 of the Vancouver Giants makes a save and watches the puck during their WHL game against the Everett Silvertips at Langley Event Centre on September 23, 2016 in Langley, British Columbia, Canada.

Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Giants General Manager Glen Hanlon announced today that the team has traded 1998-born goaltender Ryan Kubic (St. Andrews, MB) to the Saskatoon Blades in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft.

Originally selected by the Giants in the second round (39th Overall) of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, the 5’11” 186 pound netminder suited up in 109 career regular season games with the Giants. During that span Kubic compiled a record of 32-58-7-5 with an .895 save percentage, a 3.53 goals-against-average and five shutouts.

Kubic holds the Giants franchise record shutout streak having not allowed a goal in three consecutive games from November 28, 2015 through December 4th, 2015. He was named the Giants Rookie of the Year in 2015-16 and the Team’s Unsung Hero in 2016-17. He also captured the 2016-17 Players Choice Award and Three Stars Award. Last season he became the Giants single season saves record holder with 1681. Internationally he represented Canada at the 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

“We want to thank Ryan for his years of service and for providing the Vancouver Giants with top level goaltending,” said Giants General Manager Glen Hanlon. “We wish Ryan nothing but continued success as he continues his WHL career with the Saskatoon Blades.”

With this move the Giants roster now sits at 26 players: Two goaltenders, nine defencemen and 15 forwards.
