Best of the West Baseball Tournament

Both teams started the tournament last night in the Fraser Valley and are moving to Kamloops today, where the tournament is being hosted

The Victoria Mariners and the Lambrick Park Baseball Academy (LPBA) both fielded Midget teams this weekend for the Best of the West Baseball Tournament.  The Mariners squared off against the Chilliwack Cougars in Chilliwack BC. Pitchers included Kai Tominaga, Matt Collett,  Gabe Crozier, Mason Chamberlain and Zack Swanson, all performing well. They threw to Liam Bondoreff and then Bryce Franklin. Despite their solid effort, and tremendous plays by Short Stop, Cole Mayhew, the Cougars triumphed 4-0.

Trey Sjerven.

The LPBA began their tournament in Coquitlam against the Reds. What a battle it was with Trey Sjerven going 7 innings, chucking to Hideki Endo behind the plate. The game was scoreless going into the 5th and then tied the following inning by LPBA with Shuta Araki screaming around the bags to score. Extra innings, with Quentin Davidoff on the mound, decided the battle in a heartbreaking ending with the Reds scoring the winning run in the 8th, with a final score 2-1 Reds.

LPBA was coached by Mike Chewpoy and Joey Vandevoorde. The Mariners were coached by Jay Longpre.
