The Sequim Seahawks senior boy’s volleyball squad won their first tournament of the season this weekend at the Chargers Fall Classic (September 22-23) where fifteen teams gathered for two days of competition at the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence and Pacific Christian School in a battle for the 2017 title.
“We had a great tournament,” stated Camosun Chargers Men’s Volleyball Head Coach, Charles Parkinson. “Because it is early in the season it was rewarding to watch each team grow significantly and develop their identities as the tournament progressed. By the semi finals, the volleyball was really good and Royal Bay and Oak Bay battled furiously, with Royal Bay prevailing in the end. Sequim is a team that has been together with the same coach since Grade 8, both in school and club volleyball, and although they were not tall, their execution and discipline was evident throughout the tournament. Despite a game effort by an emotional Royal Bay group who were the only team to win a set off them, Sequim prevailed in the end and won their first title of the season.”
All-Star honours were awarded to:
#1 Sander Keil Gulf Islands
#1 Thomas Hill Oak Bay
#3 Moses Lee Reynolds
#6 Logan Judge Royal Bay
#1 Bryden Mandy Royal Bay
#1 Elijah St. Jermaine Sequim
#4 Kris Espezel Sequim
Seahawk Kris Espezel was named Tournament MVP.
The winner of the Consolation Playoffs was Gulf Islands who defeated Ucuelet 25-23, 25-23.
