Matteo Ventura

VICTORIA – Vikes men’s soccer head coach Bruce Wilson is pleased to announce the addition of local product Matteo Ventura. Ventura, a graduate of Reynolds Secondary will join the team for the 2018-19 season.

“Matteo is a quality striker, which you don’t come by often,” said Wilson. “He is very strong, very fit and overall he is a goal scorer. That is something that every team in the world is looking for.”

A forward from Victoria, Ventura has played for multiple local teams, including Gorge FC, the Vancouver Island Wave and Vic West F.C. The five-foot-nine striker intends to major in business at UVic and is pleased to be able to continue his education and soccer career close to home

“UVic was always one of my schools of choice. It’s nice to be able to attend a top university in your own community,” said Ventura. “Besides the programs UVic has to offer, I like the UVic culture. The campus is beautiful, and I kind of know my way around, also UVic is in my hometown and just a short commute from home.”

Ventura, who led Reynolds Secondary to a first place finish at the 2016 B.C. Provincial Championships said that Centennial Stadium was a big draw for him to join the Vikes.

“Centennial Stadium is a place young players dream of playing at,” said Ventura. “It’s nice to know that it will be my home pitch.”

The addition of a prolific striker like Ventura is something that Wilson is looking forward to for next year.

“He has the ability to make things a lot easier for us because when he gets a chance or two he puts them away,” said Wilson. “I am very pleased that he is coming here and we are looking forward to him joining the Vikes.”
