MONTREAL, QC—The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s volleyball team moved into Quebec for the latter part of their Eastern Canadian exhibition tour on Wednesday (Sept 27).

The ‘Pack saw their preseason record dip to 1-1 as they lost a five set decision to the host University of Montreal Caribins.

The scores were 28-26,15-12,20-25,25-27,16-14.

“I was pretty happy with the way we came back, “stated head coach Chad Grimm. “ I thought we should have won the first set. We were in control for most of the way and let it go in the end. We didn’t react very well in the second and lost big.  We turned it around in the third and managed to battle back. Our defensive intensity and passing picked up a lot. We won a tight one in the forth and lost a tight one in the fifth.”

TRU was led by outside hitter Rachel Windhorst (4th year, Surrey, BC) with 18 kills. Mikayla Funk (2nd year, outside hitter, South Surrey, BC) had 12 kills and 16 digs.

Samantha Sonnenberg (5th year, middle, Edmonton, AB) had 4 service aces while Kendra Finch (3rd year, outside hitter, North Vancouver, BC) added 3 service aces.

Hali Drezet (2nd year, Prince George, BC) had 15 digs.

“I thought Samantha did a great job,” Grimm added. “She came into the match in the third set and brought good energy, was efficient attacking, made some blocks and was very effective from the service line.  She did her job well and played a big role in turning things around.”

The WolfPack will move onto Laval for a couple of matches.
They open up their Canada West regular season at home on the Warner Rentals Court on Friday, October 20th when they entertain the MacEwan University Griffins.  Match time is 6 pm at the Tournament Capital Centre.
