Prince Albert, SK – The Prince Albert Raiders completed a weekend sweep of visiting Alberta teams with a 4-2 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday night at the Art Hauser Centre.
The Raiders wore Don Cherry-themed jerseys on WHL Suits Up with Don Cherry to Promote Organ Donation Night Presented By RE/MAX. Over the course of the jersey auction and the night’s affairs, the Raiders raised more than $10,000 for the cause.
As for the game, the Tigers opened the scoring with 5:30 to play in the first period. Gary Haden beat Curtis Meger to put the visitors up 1-0. About three minutes later, Cole Fonstad notched his first of the season on a shot from the blueline that beat Michael Bullion to tie the game at 1-1 after 20 minutes.
In the second, Max Gerlach scored on the power play to put the Tigers ahead by one at the 15:50 mark. However, Devon Skoleski scored a highlight-reel goal with 10 seconds remaining to tie the game again. The 20-year-old dove for a rebound and swiped the puck into the net past Bullion.
The Raiders took their first lead of the game in the third period on Parker Kelly’s third goal of the season, which held up as the game-winning goal. Curtis Miske sealed the game with an empty-net goal with four seconds remaining.
In his first career WHL start, Meger picked up the win with a 30-save performance that earned him the game’s third star. Bullion made 32 saves in a losing effort.
