Week 9 – BCFC Players of the Week
Offense –Running back, Robbie Rodrigues-Okanagan Sun
16 carries for 183 yards
1 reception for 52 yards
The Okanagan Sun backfield has largely been a “by committee” affair in 2017 with Rodrigues in 8th spot in the conference rushing derby this season. Sunday afternoon against the Langley Rams, Rodrigues ran over, around and through the Rams defense as he was one of 7 Sun running backs to carry the ball.
He may have shared the duties with teammates on this date, but he made the most of his opportunities.
Defense – Defensive Line, Jeremie Drouin-Westshore Rebels
4 tackles, 1 assisted tackle, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery
Drouin has been a force on a big and nasty Westshore Rebels defensive line all season. Saturday afternoon he contributed pretty much every way a defensive lineman can as he and the Rebels front 4 bottled up the Valley Huskers offense.
Interesting in that while Huskers quarterback Noah Falconer has found himself under pressure all season, he had only been sacked 5 times heading into this past weekend against the Rebels. Drouin and company showed Falconer to his seat 5 times this day alone
Special Teams-Kicker, James Parker-VI Raiders
4 of 4 field goals (36,36,41,44)
4 of 4 converts
51.8 average on 6 kick off offs
The VI Raiders found themselves in a tight game early on the road in Kamloops on a cool and rainy Saturday night. James Parker showed why he leads all kickers in the BCFC as he was perfect when the Raider needed him to be. His perfection was not of the chip shot variety either.
Not sure if Parker’s teammates have given him a nickname or not, but they should.
