Janet Riopel

Oilers Entertainment Group (OEG) and the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) announced today that Edmonton Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Janet Riopel has been elected as Board Chair for the EOCF. Riopel has been on the EOCF Board since 2012, serving as Chair of the Audit Finance Committee and most recently as Chair of the Legacy Development Committee.

“Janet Riopel has deep roots in our community and has been a positive and dedicated powerhouse for our Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation since her tenure began on our Board in 2012. Janet will be an excellent Board Chair and we are looking forward to continuing our philanthropic leadership in the community under her guidance,” said EOCF Executive Director Natalie Minckler. “Janet not only leads and contributes amazing work on the Board level but she can also be seen volunteering at our events in the community and for this we are grateful.”

Riopel has devoted her volunteer time to senior roles on the boards of many organizations, including Chair of the Greater Edmonton Region Chambers of Commerce. She also sits on advisory committees for the MacEwan School of Business and Edmonton Airports. Previously, she has served as Board Chair of Compassion House Foundation, MacEwan University and the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, Campaign Chair for United Way of the Alberta Capital Region, and was President of the Urban Development Institute Alberta.

Riopel’s community service has brought her much recognition. She was honoured with the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, has twice been named one of Alberta’s 50 Most Influential People by Alberta Venture, was named to the Edmonton Journal’s Power 30 list and was a Global TV Woman of Vision.

“It is my privilege to serve as Board Chair of the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation,” said Riopel. “Our Board embodies the spirit of community and brings talent, expertise and energy to the table. I look forward to the Foundation rising to new heights with even greater and more impactful contributions into our community.”

This year, the EOCF as per their mandate, will continue to support the life-changing work being done in the community through various programming and partnerships in support of education, health and wellness and hockey programming for youth.
