Impressive List Of 129 WHL Graduates Listed on NHL Opening Day Rosters

    WHL Alumni

The Western Hockey League is proud to announce that 129 WHL Alumni are on National Hockey League opening day rosters for the start of the 2017-18 season.

Led by the Calgary Flames, Philadelphia Flyers and Vegas Golden Knights whose rosters each include eight WHL grads, all 31 NHL Clubs boast at least one former WHL player. The Edmonton Oilers and New York Islanders each boast seven WHL graduates while the Vancouver Canucks and Chicago Blackhawks will each have six WHL alumni on their roster to begin the season.

Included in the list are a pair of first round selections from the 2017 NHL Draft as Nolan Patrick and Kailer Yamamoto will make their debuts with the Flyers and Oilers respectively.

The Portland Winterhawks lead this year’s list of alumni on opening night rosters, contributing 17 players to this year’s list. The Brandon Wheat Kings and Kelowna Rockets will each see 13 of their graduates on opening night rosters. The Calgary Hitmen and Red Deer Rebels round out the top five contributors to the list with 11 players each on opening night rosters.

Of the 128 WHL graduates listed on opening day rosters, five are currently on the injured reserve lists of NHL Clubs.
