ABBOTSFORD, BC – UBC Okanagan’s head golf coach Cass Hritzuk, for the first time in his career, named the PACWEST conference coach of the year for the 2017 season.
Leading both UBC Okanagan men’s and women’s team to provincial silver medals this year and a history of consistently producing strong results on the course at UBC Okanagan, both on the team and the individual side is one of many reasons Hritzuk is a deserving recipient of the conference honour.
The honour was announced at an awards ceremony after the final conference tournament wrapped up at the Ledgeview Golf Club in Abbotsford, BC this past Sunday.
The four-tournament season started with a home tournament, Hritzuk, and the men’s team a rode a day-one hole-in-one from third year student Oliver Rizun and a scorching 68 day-two round from James Casorso to capture the team event.
The men’s team went on to share the win in the second outing and then finish second overall in the third and fourth tournaments to capture the silver medal. The first silver finish in the Heat men’s golf history and their first medal since they captured three straight bronzes, all under Hritzuk, from 2013-2015.
The women’s team under the tutelage from Hritzuk went wire to wire for the second straight season, capturing second in every tournament and capturing provincial silver medals.
Words from head coach Cass Hritzuk
“I am flattered and honored to receive this award. My success as a coach relies solely on the great players I have had the privilege to be involved with over the years. This award is more a result of their outstanding abilities than it is a result of my ability to coach. I’m honored to share this award with each and every one of them.”
