CALGARY,AB—The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s volleyball team is off and running at the Dino Cup exhibition tournament.

Pat Hennelly and his team opened up the event with a 3-1 win over the University of Alberta Golden Bears.

The scores at the Jack Simpson Gym at the University of Calgary were 25-22,25-23,22-25,25-20.

TRU was led by Tim Dobbert (4th year, outside hitter, Aichelberg, Germany) who had 22 kills.  Josh Mullaney (3rd year, outside hitter, Calgary, AB) had 16 kills with Charlie Bringloe (3rd year, outside hitter, Waterloo, ON) having 10 kills and three service aces.

“We played very well for a morning match,”said Hennelly. “We struggled serving to start as we missed 11 in the first set. Alberta did not play their older ‘starters’ but it was still good to come out and execute.”

Added the coach: “Jakob (Hamilton, 2nd year, setter, Calgary, AB) did a great job running our offense.”

The WolfPack are back on the court at 3 pm MST to face the University of Winnipeg Wesmen.  They will play two more matches tomorrow.

Thompson Rivers opens up their 2017-18 Canada West regular season at home on the Warner Rentals court a week tonight (Oct 20) when they entertain the MacEwan University Griffins of Edmonton, Alberta. Match time is 7:45 pm.
