Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals will battle the Vancouver Giants this weekend for two games at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Saturday’s contest will begin at 7:05 p.m, while Sunday will see the two teams in an afternoon match-up beginning at 3:05 p.m. Sunday’s contest will celebrate Marty the Marmot’s 12th birthday and a Skate with the Players will take place following the game.
SETTING THE MARK: Last weekend, forward Tyler Soy passed alumnus Jack Walker to set the new Royals’ record for most career points. Soy has earned 251 points (121g-130a) over 266 games, while Walker had recorded 248 (101g-147a) in 318 contests. The franchise record is held by Brandon Magee who scored 264 points (113g-151a) over 318 games with Victoria and the Chilliwack Bruins.
PHILLING THE NET: In last night’s victory, Victoria’s Matthew Phillips scored the 100th goal of his WHL career. With the marker, Phillips became the fastest player in franchise history to reach the 100-goal plateau as he accomplished the feat in 158 contests. Former Chilliwack Bruin Ryan Howse held the original record as he scored 100 goals in 199 games.

SUNDAY – MARTY THE MARMOT’S BIRTHDAY PRESENTED BY GREAT CLIPS
Come celebrate Marty the Marmot’s 12th birthday. Fans at the game will have the opportunity to enjoy a slice of cake after the contest at Gate 1. Marty will be joined for the event by his mascot friends including: Ace (Saanich PD), Rocky Raccoon (Victoria Shamrocks), Slider (Panorama Recreation), Santa Bear (CFAX Santa Anonymous), Striker (Victoria Highlanders), Turbo (Harbour Air) and Sudz (Great Clips).
At Gate 1, Great Clips will be providing free Royal Blue washout hair colouring prior to the start of the contest.
Fans will be able to skate with Royals’ players following the game via a donation to the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund. Helmets and skates will be available for rent at the Skate Shop, located beside the Royals’ Team store at Gate 3, on a first-come-first-served basis.
