COLWOOD, B.C. – The South Island Division just got a lot tighter.

Alexander Benger and Tyler Vanuden had a goal and an assist each as the Victoria Cougars edged the Westshore Wolves 4-3 at The Q Centre on Wednesday night.

With the win plus a whopping four games in hand, Victoria pulled to within three points of the division-leading Wolves.

Also scoring for the Cougars (7-5-0-0) was Darwin Lakoduk and Matthew Berryman, a call-up from the BCMML’s South Island Royals.

Cameron Kinsman, Trevor Bottomley, and Cole Gardner replied for Westshore (8-7-0-1).

Extending his point streak to five games was Mateo Albinati who picked up assists on goals from Lakoduk and Vanuden.

Victoria went 0-for-9 on the power play; meanwhile, the Wolves finished 0-for-5.

Patrick Ostermann recorded his second straight win with a 33 save performance.  200 feet away, Luke Sheldrake stopped 21 shots in the loss.

Former Cougars goaltender Corey Koop was one of the linesmen working the game.

Next game for Victoria is Thursday, October 26 versus the Nanaimo Buccaneers.  Game time at the Nanaimo Ice Centre, located at 750 Third Street, is 7:15 p.m.
