NANAIMO, B.C. – The Nanaimo Buccaneers extended their win streak to 12 games Thursday night with a 3-2 win over the Victoria Cougars.

Booker Chacalias broke a 2-2 tie with a shorthanded goal with just under seven minutes to play in regulation.

After taking a nice feed, Chacalias skated in on a partial breakaway where he beat Patrick Ostermann stick side.

Picking up the lone assist was Billy Walters who scored the first two goals for the Buccaneers.

With 26 of a possible 28 points, Nanaimo is off to its best start in history.

Dylan Defosse and Jaden McNulty replied for the Cougars who rallied twice from one-goal deficits.

Buccaneers Derek Krall showed why he is the best goaltender in the VIJHL.

His best save came late in the second period when he slid across the crease and flashed the leather in robbing Tyler Vanuden of a sure goal.  Vanuden had his arms raised part way only to skate away empty handed.

Shots on goal were 31-28 in favour of Victoria.

Ostermann was pulled for an extra attacker with a minute to go but to no avail.

The Cougars finished 0-for-6 on the power play.  Nanaimo went 0-for-1.

Next game for Victoria is Thursday, November 2 versus the Westshore Wolves.  Game time at the Archie Browning Sports Centre, located at 1151 Esquimalt Road, is 7:00 p.m.
