Tale of the Weekend

VICTORIA – The UVic Vikes men’s rugby team will be hoping that the momentum they gained from a dominating run that saw them qualify for the National Championships will carry over when they return to BC Premier league action this weekend in a game against the Castaway Wanderers.

Hosting the Wanderers at Wallace Field on Nov. 4, the game that starts at 2:30 p.m. will see the Vikes take on a team that is not only a Victoria-based rival, but also one of the top teams in the league.

The Wanderers enter the weekend in a tie for second place in the BC Premier League, their record of 5-1-0 combined with five of a possible six bonus points has earned Castaway 25 points on the season.

The Vikes meanwhile, have struggled through the early part of their BC Premier League schedule. The team is currently 1-5-0 on the season and their nine points on the season has them in tenth place in the league.

The Wanderers were the victors when these teams last met on March 4 in the 2016-17 season. Castaway took the lead in the last five minutes of the game and then held on for the 25-20 victory.
