The Victoria Titans U15-1 field lacrosse team is off to a strong start this season improving their record to 6-1 Saturday with a 14-6 win over the Nanaimo Raiders in snowy conditions in Nanaimo.

The Titans coached by Brett Savory , Jeff Girardet, Ken Passfield, Ryan Solomon and Sean Walmsley started off slow in the game but eventually got rolling to secure the win. ” It wasn’t a pretty win but that’s to be expected with the field conditions” said Walmsley. The team is in Richmond next weekend for a tournament where they are expected to be in the hunt for a gold medal.

” It’s a very good group we have this year. We have a strong leadership core , a good balanced offence and a very strong defence and goalie that can bail us out when we do make mistakes. The team is young this year with only 3 second year players but it’s a talented group that works hard and wants to improve every game and there’s no egos which is nice , they all get along and play for each other.”

The teams season runs till mid December with playoffs in January and provincials in February. ” A lot of people didn’t think we would do much this year being so young but the team has embraced the underdog dog role and I’m sure we will surprise a few people in Richmond and in provincials this year.”
